Ministers agree on four priority actions for employment

At the end of the Fourth Ministerial Conference on Employment and Labour, the ministers of the member countries of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) agreed to focus their actions on four regional priorities.

In a joint declaration, they committed to supporting the creation of decent jobs and entrepreneurship and to mobilising public and private players to create partnerships and synergies. In addition, ministers will focus on building inclusive labour markets to integrate potentially vulnerable and disadvantaged groups and investing in quality education systems and training for skills and employability “in a changing world of work”.

The UfM Secretary General, Nasser Kamel, was also asked to work on a community of practice to evaluate and disseminate good practice for the four priority actions. More generally, Ministers asked the Secretary General to broaden and intensify his actions on employment and labour.

In their declaration, the Ministers also recalled that economic progress and social cohesion must go hand in hand.

The fifth Ministerial Conference on Employment and Labour will be held in 2022. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
