02/04/2019 (Agence Europe) – Eleven major European cities - Genoa, Porto, Turin, Tirana, Bologna, Strasbourg, Verona, Tampere, Oslo, Mannheim and Rijeka - on Monday 1 April committed to reducing their carbon emissions by at least 40% by 2030, during the Eurocities ‘Environment’ Forum in Genoa. Their goal is to contribute to keeping global warming below 2°C. At the same forum, 120 member cities adopted a policy document calling on leaders to urgently review greenhouse gas reduction targets in response to the warning of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). These cities also want to be heard in the negotiations process of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. (PH)
