The European Parliament's Committee on International Trade (INTA) has given its consent to an EU Council decision on an international agreement on olive oil and table olives dating from 2015 (see EUROPE 11344/10), Tuesday 2 April.
In a debate the day before, MEPs underlined their disappointment at the delay in forwarding a draft law from 2017 to the European Parliament, and at the lack of transparency in the negotiations between the other two institutions.
This delay was caused by lengthy discussions between Member States, and between the EU Council and the Commission, due to differences of opinion on the modalities for amending certain articles and technical elements of the annexes to the agreement.
The agreement has already been provisionally implemented since 2017.
On 18 March, the EU Council validated the EU's conclusion of the 2015 international agreement.
Parliament's Committee on Agriculture has also already given the green light to the text. (Original version in French by Hermine Donceel)
