Artificial intelligence and the future of the digital single market will be at the heart of the informal meeting of Telecommunications Ministers to be held on Friday 1 March. A meeting of the Eastern Partnership, held the previous day, focused on the wider digital economy.
"For 2 days in Bucharest, we will discuss Europe's digital future, the challenges and opportunities to achieve our common goal of strengthening the competitiveness of the European economy, while ensuring the EU's technological autonomy. We want Europe to become a world leader in all digital areas: 5G technology, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, high-performance computing, big data", said Alexandru Petrescu, Romanian Minister of Communication and Information Society.
The 28 March meeting brought together representatives from the Twenty-eight and Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine to discuss the challenges and opportunities of the digital economy in the Eastern Partnership region. The document resulted in a ministerial declaration at the end of the day.
The meeting on 1 March, limited to representatives of the Twenty-eight only, will be structured around two working sessions: (1) the future of a highly digitised Europe - defining the strategy for the digital single market after 2020; (2) artificial intelligence - maximising its extraordinary benefits and reducing its potential risks.
