21/02/2019 (Agence Europe) – The meeting of the interinstitutional negotiations on the Directive regarding the protection of whistleblowers, initially scheduled for Wednesday 20 February, has been postponed until 26 February. The reason being that too little progress has been made since the interinstitutional meeting on 13 February. Admittedly the co-legislators have got to the heart of the matter, namely the legal basis of the Directive (the European Parliament wants to add Article 153 TFEU, but the Council of the European Union has deleted it) and the scale of alerts (the European Parliament wants a two-stage system, whereas the Council of the European Union prefers a three-stage system) (see EUROPE 12195), resulting in heated debates.
