European Parliament approves technical amendment to Energy Efficiency Directive due to Brexit

14/02/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 14 February, the European Parliament endorsed a proposal updating Directive 2012/27/EU on energy efficiency and Regulation 2018/1999 on the governance of the energy union, to take into account the future withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the EU (see EUROPE 12183). Due to Brexit, it is necessary to technically adjust the projected EU energy consumption figures for 2030 to reflect the Union of 27 Member States. Equivalent projections for the EU27 indicate that primary energy consumption should be 1,128 Mtoe, and final energy consumption should be 846 Mtoe in 2030. (LC)
