14/02/2019 (Agence Europe) – MEPs meeting in plenary session of the European Parliament broadly approved (536 votes in favour, 53 against, 17 abstentions), on Thursday 14 February, the interinstitutional agreement between representatives of the Parliament and the former Austrian Presidency of the Council of the European Union on the Directive on the interoperability of electronic road toll systems. This agreement between the two parties was reached on 3 December last and is the only file from the first co-decision ‘mobility’ package to have been concluded to date (see EUROPE 12141). MEPs from the Parliament's ‘Transport’ Committee gave the green light to this text on 20 November (see EUROPE 12151), as did the Member States' ambassadors to the European Union ('Coreper') eight days later. The EU Council must now formally approve this agreement before the new text can enter into force. (LT)
