01/02/2019 (Agence Europe) – Industrial workers' unions, IndustriAll, warn EU co-legislators against setting overly ambitious CO2 reduction targets for heavy goods vehicles (see EUROPE 12178), in a statement issued at the end of January. Such objectives could ultimately destroy many jobs, they believe. IndustriAll proposes not to go beyond the objectives of the EU Council agreement, namely a 15% reduction by 2025 and a 30% reduction by 2030 (see EUROPE 12164). The organization prefers the introduction of a financial assistance system allowing the manufacture of low- or zero-emission trucks to sales targets. Foreseeing a very high level of infringements if the European targets are too ambitious, she believes that many companies will close down rather than comply. The organisation also proposes the integration of "alternative fuels" into the regulation. (PH)
