01/02/2019 (Agence Europe) – Regulating the repression of post-election demonstrations in Cameroon, the EU called for dialogue and respect for fundamental freedoms on Thursday 31 January, the day on which the next demonstrations in Yaoundé were banned. "Demonstrations have taken place in recent days in several cities in Cameroon. They have resulted in a disproportionate use of force by security forces and multiple arrests, including leaders of the main opposition party. Similarly, violent incidents by opponents have been observed against some Cameroonian embassies abroad", said the spokeswoman of the European External Action Service. “The solution to the important challenges facing the country can only be found through dialogue, in a peaceful and inclusive context, where fundamental freedoms and the rule of law are respected”.
