Francesco La Camera appointed Director General of IRENA

The European Commission welcomed on Monday 14 January the appointment of the Italian Francesco La Camera as Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

Francesco La Camera, currently Director General for Sustainable Development, Energy and Climate at the Italian Ministry of the Environment, was appointed to this position on Sunday 13 January at the IRENA Assembly. 

Francesco La Camera will succeed Kenyan Adnan Amin, who has been Managing Director since 2011, for four years starting 4 April 2019. 

The European Commissioner for Climate and Energy Action, Miguel Arias Cañete, welcomed the appointment. “The election of a European candidate for this important organisation demonstrates our leadership in the global world of renewables. The Commissioner is convinced that Francesco La Camera is the right person to lead this agency in the next phase of renewables deployment worldwide

IRENA is an intergovernmental organization with 160 member countries whose role is to support the acceleration of renewable energy throughout the world. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
