14/01/2019 (Agence Europe) – The second selection process of the DiscoverEU initiative - which allows 18-year-olds to travel free of charge across the continent - has officially ended. The European Commission announced on 14 January that it had selected 14,536 young people out of 80,000 who had applied. Young people - who have been selected on the basis of the allocation criteria and quotas set for each EU Member State - will receive a free ticket (generally a train ticket) to travel between 15 April and 31 October 2019 for a maximum period of 30 days. They will also receive advice on how to prepare for their departure and some special benefits, such as discounts on museum admission tickets. As a reminder, a first group of candidates (15,000 young people) has already benefited from DiscoverEU between July 9 and September 30, 2018. (SPj)
