Negotiators from the European Parliament and the Council, assisted by the Commission, reached political agreement on Wednesday 12 December on the proposal for a decision to strengthen the EU civil protection mechanism for a more effective collective response to natural disasters (forest fires, floods, health emergencies) or man-made disasters (terrorist or chemical attacks, nuclear threats) in the EU or third countries.
