European Parliament calls for immediate and unconditional release of Sakharov Prize winner Nasrin Sotoudeh

On Thursday 13 December, the European Parliament urged the Iranian authorities to immediately and unconditionally release human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh, winner of the 2012 Sakharov Prize, sentenced to 5 years in prison in absentia in 2015 for “illegal espionage" and arrested in June 2018. 

Iranian justice must guarantee due process and a fair trial and provide information on the charges brought against Ms Sotoudeh, emphasize MEPs in the joint resolution on Iran adopted by...
