Agreement in Council on recasting of Brussels IIa Regulation after two years of negotiations

At the Justice Council on Friday 7 December, the Ministers reached political agreement in principle on the substance of the recast of the ‘Brussels II bis’ Regulation on judgements in matrimonial matters, parental responsibility and international child abduction (see EUROPE 11584). 

During the round table discussion, the ministers generally welcomed the outcome. The new rules abolish exequatur for all decisions on parental responsibility subject to several guarantees (see EUROPE 11923)....
