CISPE criticises agreement reached on removal of terrorist content online

07/12/2018 (Agence Europe)CISPE, the Alliance of Cloud Infrastructure Service Providers in Europe, considers the agreement reached on 6 December by EU Interior Ministers on the withdrawal of terrorist content online (see EUROPE 12154) to be "technically unfeasible and aimed at the wrong actors". She asked the European Parliament to rectify the situation. The regulation will, she said, require these cloud infrastructure providers to proactively scan, filter and delete data from all companies and public administrations. "The rules adopted today are designed for online content-sharing services, such as social media and content sharing platforms that can access and monitor data and content made available by end users.” Although an automated process is planned for the future, the proposed measures would require cloud infrastructure providers to proactively "search" all customers, requiring them to filter and delete data. (SP)
