07/12/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 7 December, the European Commission approved the commitments submitted by TenneT, a German grid operator, to increase the capacity of electricity trading between Denmark and Germany. This decision echoes the opening of a formal investigation last 19 March, when the Commission expressed concern that the company may have infringed EU competition law by limiting electricity capacity from the western part of Denmark to Germany (see EUROPE 11984). TenneT then presented their pledges in order to address the Commission's concerns. Parties concerned were subsequently invited to submit their comments (see EUROPE 11990). After receiving feedback, the Commission considered that the pledges submitted by TenneT addressed its concerns, which is why it made them legally binding for a period of nine years. (LT)
