03/12/2018 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced on Monday 3 December that it had approved the application to include the 'Scrumbie de Dunăre afumată’ in the register of protected geographical indication (PGI). It is a smoked fish from the Danube Delta in Romania, prepared from the Black Sea shad. Cold smoking is traditionally used to retain a large amount of fat from this fish, which is, for its size, the fattiest in the world. This new appellation will join more than 1,440 products (excluding wines and spirits) already protected at EU level. (LC)
