03/12/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 3 December, the Council extended the mandate of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM Georgia) until 14 December 2020. It also allocated a budget of €38.2 million for the period from 15 December 2018 to 14 December 2020. This civilian mission, deployed in September 2008 following the six-point agreement reached at the EU's initiative to end the August war between Russia and Georgia, includes more than 200 European civilian observers. The EUMM contributes to stabilisation, normalisation and confidence-building between the parties to the conflict, according to the Council communiqué. In concrete terms, the mission provides civilian monitoring of the parties' actions, including full compliance with the agreement and subsequent implementation measures throughout Georgia. (CG)
