03/12/2018 (Agence Europe) – Euro Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis wanted to see "concrete proposals" from the Italian authorities on the draft budget for 2019 before deciding on the formal opening of a debt-based excessive deficit procedure on Monday 3 December after meeting with Italian Minister Giovanni Tria (see EUROPE 12150). He recalled that Member States had validated the Commission's approach, with the Eurogroup being called upon to support it politically. In Rome, the Italian Parliament undertook a review of the Finance Law. This weekend in Buenos Aires, where he was attending the G20 summit, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said that infringement proceedings against his country were "not desirable" because of the turmoil that such a situation would cause on the markets and the conditions for financing Italian debt.
