European Parliament Civil Liberties Committee gives green light once again to legislation on humanitarian visas

03/12/2018 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament's Civil Liberties Committee approved by a large majority (37 votes in favour, 10 against, 3 abstentions) the draft own-initiative report on humanitarian visas by Juan Fernando López Aguilar (S&D) of Spain. The report calls on the European Commission to legislate on humanitarian visas and will now be represented in plenary in mid-December. In mid-November, Parliament had not been able to give the draft report enough votes during a first round in plenary (see EUROPE 12144). The Conference of Presidents of the political groups then decided to relaunch the procedure as a matter of urgency. (SP)
