23/11/2018 (Agence Europe) – Giuseppe Conte, the Italian Prime Minister, said on Friday 23 November that he was not "worried" but "absolutely vigilant" before his meeting with Jean-Claude Juncker, the President of the European Commission, on Saturday 24 November. The two men will discuss the Italian budgetary situation at this meeting, while the Commission delivered a negative opinion on Wednesday 21 November on the Italian Government's revised draft budgetary plan for 2019 and paved the way for an excessive deficit procedure against Rome on the debt criterion, with the publication of a debt report adopted on the basis of Article 126.3 TFEU (see EUROPE 12142). "I will discuss with him [Mr. Juncker] and the Commissioners, we will explain our reasons [...] I hope in a constructive way", added Mr. Conte, based on comments reported by Corriere TV. (LT)
