23/11/2018 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament's Special Committee on Financial Crime, Tax Fraud and Tax Avoidance (TAXE 3) announced on Thursday 22 November a new refusal to cooperate on the part of tax intermediary Appleby, whose tax planning practices had been revealed in the 'Paradise Papers'. As a reminder, Appleby had already refused to attend a Parliament hearing last June (see EUROPE 12046). In a statement, MPs condemned "this repeated disregard for transparency at a time when the public is rightly demanding clarity". A delegation from the TAXE 3 Committee went on a mission to the Isle of Man on 22 and 23 November, where Appleby has one of its largest offices. (MF)
