Fight against Xylella fastidiosa has limited effectiveness in Italy and Spain

The EU Food and Veterinary Office published critical reports on Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 November on measures to control the killer olive bacterium Xylella fastidiosa in Italy and Spain. 

The European Commission decided on Thursday 17 May last year to refer Italy to the European Court of Justice for failure by the Italian authorities to take the necessary measures to eradicate the quarantine pest Xylella fastidiosa in the Apulia Region (see EUROPE 12022).
