‘working conditions' directive, EPP Group asks for confirmation of negotiating mandate in Parliament plenary session

14/11/2018 (Agence Europe)The EPP group decided (35 votes in favour, 17 against) on Tuesday evening, 13 November, at an internal meeting, to challenge the mandate of rapporteur Enrique Calvet Chambon (ALDE, Spain) on the directive on 'transparent and predictable working conditions' (see EUROPE 12120). The MEP's mandate will be put to the vote again on Thursday 15 November in plenary. The discussions were lively, and reminded some of the participants of the internal debates on the Posted Workers Directive (see EUROPE 11803). The French, Belgian, Luxembourg and Spanish delegations, which support the text adopted in the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs, have been put in a minority. Some have found this decision clumsy: the message sent to citizens is disastrous as the EPP opens its campaign for the European elections. Moreover, according to several sources, the chances of a rejection of the mandate are very low. (PH)
