05/10/2018 (Agence Europe) – In an open letter dated Wednesday 3 October, two French MEPs of Rassemblement National, Philippe Loiseau and Sylvie Goddyn, backed Nicolas Dupont-Aigan of the Debout La France party as the lead candidate in the European elections of 2019. In the letter, they explain that as the chairs of Rassemblement National and Les Républicains do not wish to stand as the lead candidates of their respective parties, the most credible and legitimate option would be to present a bigger joint list. However, Loiseau took pains to moderate his comments, issuing a press release in which he stresses that he unreservedly supports the list to be presented by Rassemblement National for the European elections. 19 regional councillors elected in 2015 on Front National lists have also pledged their support for Dupont-Aigan and his 'Les Amoureux de la France' list, AFP reported on Friday.
