05/10/2018 (Agence Europe) – Transport & Environment, which calls for safe and clean transport, has set out three major recommendations for improving the European Commission’s proposals on vehicle safety, in a paper published on Thursday 4 October. The organisation thus calls for the regulation on general vehicle safety (see EUROPE 12022) to ensure: - legislators set a minimum level of detail for safety conditions serving as a basis for work of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE); - delays are shortened for introducing certain technologies, including direct vision for all heavy vehicles (2024 compared with 2029 in the Commission’s proposal); - there is a clear Commission mandate if UNECE ambitions are not sufficiently high.
