05/10/2018 (Agence Europe) – In connection with the Danske Bank money laundering scandal (see EUROPE 12108), Eurocadres, the European trade union for professional and managerial staff, sounds the alarm in a statement published on Wednesday 3 October, and calls for the anonymity of whistleblowers to be ensured. Indeed, explains the union, whistleblower Howard Wilkinson has been forced to "hide" since his identity was revealed by the Estonian media. "This case clearly pinpoints one of several shortcomings of the European Commission’s whistleblowers protection directive proposal", said Martin Jefflén, President of Eurocadres, who also criticises the prioritisation of reporting in three stages (internal, external, public). The rapporteur, Virginie Rozière (S&D, French), explained during her last speech that she was in favour of anonymity under certain conditions. (PH)
