European Parliament and Council move forward on Accessibility Act

03/10/2018 (Agence Europe)The European Parliament and Council made progress in several areas during the 6th interinstitutional meeting on the directive for “accessibility applying to products and services”, held on Tuesday 2 October.   Progress was thus made on free service terminals, micro-enterprise and labelling (EC marking) (see EUROPE 12108).  This last point should be finalised at technical level.  They also moved forward on the question of the built-up environment where services are provided.  The last difficult points are: inclusion of accessibility in the awarding of public procurement contracts, access to emergency communication services, and integration into the scope of the directive of intermodal and urgent transport, catering and housing.  Negotiators agreed to conclude an agreement under Austrian presidency.  A further meeting is scheduled for 8 November this year.  (PH)
