International agreement to prevent unregulated fishing in Arctic

On Wednesday 3 October, EU and Arctic partners concluded, in Greenland, an international agreement considered “historic”, aimed at preventing unregulated fishing in the high seas (see EUROPE 12096).

The parties to the agreement are the European Union, Canada, China, Denmark (as far as Greenland and the Faroe Islands are concerned), Iceland, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Norway, the Russian Federation of Russia, and the United States.  These parties represent around 75% of global GDP.
