07/06/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 7 June, the European Commission sent a reasoned opinion to Belgium calling on it to transpose Directive 2014/87/Euratom on nuclear safety which should have been transposed by 15 August 2017. By that date, Belgium had given no notification to the Commission of its transposition measures. In December 2017, it received a letter of formal notice. This February, Belgium communicated a number of transposition measures but, the Commission says, has not notified any transposition measures corresponding to specific requirements laid down in the directive. Belgian authorities now have two months in which to adopt and communicate all necessary measures to ensure full and correct transposition if it is to avoid referral to the European Court of Justice. The Commission also sent letters of formal notice to Poland and Spain calling on them to complete their transposition of this same directive. (EH)
