EU grants another €1.5 million in aid for refugees

07/06/2018 (Agence Europe)On Thursday 7 June, the European Commission announced the addition of a €1.5 million envelope to respond to the recent increase in refugee arrivals in Bosnia-Herzegovina.  "Our funding will support their basic needs and provide emergency shelter, food and health assistance, as well as protection”, European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid Christos Stylianides stated.  The concrete aid will be implemented in cities such as Sarajevo, Bihać and Velika Kladuša by associations present on the ground.  The Commission's decision brings to €30.5 million the aid brought by the EU to the Balkans via the Commission's humanitarian aid funds, since the beginning of the refugee crisis.  Around 4,900 refugees have arrived in Bosnia-Herzegovina since January 2018, according to figures from the government.  (MS)
