29/05/2018 (Agence Europe) – The European car manufacturers’ association ACEA, warned the United States on Monday 28 May about the negative impact for the EU, the US and the world economy of restrictions on trade in cars following the launch of an investigation by the US administration into the import of vehicles into the American market (see EUROPE 12026). ACEA says European car manufacturers do not only import vehicles from the US, but many have a major industrial imprint on the ground, creating hundreds of thousands of direct and indirect jobs. Much of their US production is exported to third countries, including the EU, explains ACEA, noting that it is convinced that the import of vehicles from the EU is not a risk for United States’ national security. The transatlantic car trade makes up 10% of all bilateral trade. (EH)
