07/05/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Sunday 6 May, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service hailed the resumption of talks in Cuba for a ceasefire between the Colombian government and the National Liberation Army (ELN), which is now the most powerful armed rebel group since FARC laid down its arms. "We wish the parties success in working towards a ceasefire, which would significantly improve the humanitarian situation in the areas most affected by conflict", the spokesperson stated in a press release. The fighting linked to the control of cocaine trafficking still rages in certain remote areas of the country. The first round of presidential elections in Colombia will take place on Sunday 27 May.
