23/04/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Saturday 21 April, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service said that a "full investigation is needed to understand what happened" the previous day, the fourth Friday of demonstrations in Gaza, when Israeli soldiers again opened fire, killing four Palestinians, including a 15-year old, and wounding more than 150. In a press release, the EU once again "calls on the Israel Defence Forces to refrain from using lethal force against unarmed protestors" and underlines the need to avoid any further escalation of violence and loss of life. The UN special envoy for the "peace process" in the Middle East, Bulgarian national Nickolay Mladenov, has meanwhile accused Tsahal of firing at children. Since the start of the demonstrations, 37 Palestinians, including four under-18 year olds, have been killed by Israeli forces. (CG)
