Deputy Bulgarian environment minister wants better treatment of small and medium-sized cities

23/04/2018 (Agence Europe)At a meeting of high-ranking experts in Sofia to discuss the development of the regions post-2020 on Friday 20 April, deputy Bulgarian regional development minister Denitsa Nikolova called for a balanced approach as part of Cohesion Policy.  The way she sees it, there needs to be greater territorial cohesion and urban development, and not only at big city level.  Core cities driving economic growth should not prevent the development of other cities outside the big metropolises, she said.  She feels that cities should stop competing with each other to aim at overarching targets.  The European Commission will unveil the Multiannual Financial Framework and Cohesion Policy post-2020 on 2 and 29 May respectively (see EUROPE 11961)(PH)
