Jeremy Corbyn wants London to negotiate new customs union with EU

26/02/2018 (Agence Europe)On Monday 26 February, British Labour Party leader, Jeremy Corbyn, declared that he wanted a “new customs union" with the EU after Brexit, according to AFP. During a speech in Coventry (in the British Midlands), the leader of the British opposition party stated, "The Labour party wants to negotiate a completely new customs union between the United Kingdom and the European Union in order to guarantee the absence of customs duties with Europe and avoid any need for a hard border in Northern Ireland”. Corbyn stated that every country that is close to the EU without being a member of it, such as Turkey, Switzerland or Norway, have very close relations with the EU. He explained that in this context, the UK would need a “bespoke relationship”. Theresa May will give her vision of a post-Brexit partnership on Friday 2 March. (SP)
