26/02/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Sunday 25 February, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service (EEAS) announced the EU was ready to support the ongoing investigations in Georgia, through its monitoring mission (EUMM), following the "tragic death of a Georgian citizen, Mr Archil Tatunashvili, and detention of two others", who are reported to have been illegally detained in South Ossetia by Ossetian forces. The EU is ready to facilitate discussions through the Incident Prevention and Support Mechanism and the Mission Hotline, the EEAS spokesperson said in a press release. "We expect the de facto authorities in Tskhinvali to urgently ensure that they are allowed to travel to Tbilisi administered territory", the spokesperson stated, adding that these latest developments underline the need for additional measures to ensure transparency and improve confidence.
