26/02/2018 (Agence Europe) – A further step towards adoption of the legislative package that is key to the EU action plan of December 2015 encouraging the transition to a circular economy was taken in Brussels on Friday 23 February. The ambassadors of the 28 member states to the EU approved the provisional inter-institutional agreement reached in December 2017 on revision of the four directives concerned: the framework directive, the packaging and packaging waste directive, the landfill directive and the electric and electronic waste directive (see EUROPE 11930 and 11928). The text of the agreement, which sets new binding targets for reducing waste by 2025, 2030 and 2035, will be put to the European Parliament’s environment committee on Tuesday 27 February for approval.
