14/02/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 14 February, the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, appeared confident about the disputes pitting the Commission against Poland on the question of respect for the rule of law. Asked about this subject and the article 7 procedure in the Treaty, which the Commission triggered on 20 December last, President Juncker explained that there was a good chance of, "seeing the Polish positions evolving toward ours” and, to a certain extent, “more circumspectly”, seeing the European positions approach those of the Polish positions somewhat. Jean-Claude Juncker provided assurances that the two parties were permanently involved in dialogue and in this connection highlighted the example of a recent meeting between Commission Vice President, Frans Timmermans, and the Polish Foreign Minister, Jacek Czaputowicz.
