14/02/2018 (Agence Europe) – EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and United Nations Secretary General António Guterres met on Tuesday 13 February on the sidelines of the international conference for the reconstruction of Iraq. They discussed the Middle East peace process and emphasised “the need to provide continuous support for UNRWA’s critical work”. The two also discussed other issues on which the EU and the UN work closely together, including implementation of the Iranian nuclear agreement, Libya, Syria, the Korean peninsula and the Sahel. They underlined the importance of providing “substantial support to Iraq in this critical juncture” (see other article) and highlighted the “primary” role of the UN-led mediation process to find a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
