09/02/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 8 February, the director of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Matthias Burchard, hailed the resolution adopted by the European Parliament earlier that day, supporting the work of UNRWA. This resolution "is a huge expression of support, for which we are very grateful!", he said in a press release. "The European Parliament commitment, understanding and trust in our work is so encouraging and important, especially when our work is challenged through unacceptable politicisation", he added, referring to the US decision to reduce its commitments to UNRWA. In its resolution, the European Parliament calls on the international community to respect its financial commitments towards the UN agency (see EUROPE 119567). (CG)
