02/02/2018 (Agence Europe) – On 1 February, experts from the member states approved, as part of a vote in standing committee, a proposal from the Commission aiming to strengthen communication about the risk linked to African swine fever. During the EU Agriculture Council on 29 January (see EUROPE 11948), Health Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis underlined the importance of the human factor in the fight against this disease, which is gradually spreading in Europe (the Baltic countries and Romania are particularly affected). The Commission is to give its financial support to actions for communication to passenger transport operators and postal services. Furthermore, in all the member states situated on the main international road networks, travellers should be informed about the risks linked to African swine fever through awareness raising campaigns.
