02/02/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 2 February, the European Commission endorsed a Czech measure to support electronic data box services. Such boxes are used for internal communication in the civil service and for rendering secure communications between the civil service and citizens or companies. The Czech authorities feel that this is a service of general economic interest (SGEI) and are planning to make them free for users, while postal services will receive compensation for their supply in the form of a direct public subsidy. The Commission looked the measures in the light of the rules on services of general economic interest and found that the measure complies with the EU's state aid rules. (LT)
