02/02/2018 (Agence Europe) – Nearly 70 MEPs from the GUE/NGL, S&D, Greens/EFA, ALDE, EFDD and EPP groups have called on the European Commission to carry out an investigation as soon as possible into experiments carried out for German car manufacturers on monkeys and human beings. The call was announced in a press release on Friday 2 February, and the man behind it is Younous Omarjee (GUE/NGL, France), based on the Charter of Fundamental Rights, the regulation on clinical medicines trials for human use (Regulation 536/2014) and the Directive on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes (Directive 2010/63/EU), all of which are reported to have been violated by the German manufacturers according to recent leaks (see EUROPE 11949). Internal Market Commissioner Elżbieta Bieńkowska has confirmed that she will be at the European Parliament next Monday (see EUROPE 11952). (PH)
