02/02/2018 (Agence Europe) – Following up on a complaint from the European biodiesel industry (EBB), the European Commission launched an anti-subsidy procedure on Wednesday 31 January targeting imports of biodiesel from Argentina into the EU. The anti-subsidy investigation will be brought to an end within 13 months, but provisional measures can be established in nine months at the latest. Following a ruling at the WTO in 2016 as part of an appeal from Argentina, the EU cut its anti-dumping duties heavily in September 2017 on imports of Argentine biodiesel (see EUROPE 11857). Furthermore, the EU Council decided on 22 January to abandon its applications for appeal before the European Court of Justice (CJEU) to maintain its anti-dumping duties. These duties are criticised by the Argentine and Indonesian industries (see EUROPE 11949). (EH)
