16/01/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 16 January, the European Commission confirmed that on Monday 15 January, it had carried out a random inspection at the premises of a company working in the kraft paper sector. No information involving the company or member state has as yet been disclosed but the Commission explained that this operation was part of an investigation that it had already carried out as part of the number of random inspections in March 2016 and 2017 (see EUROPE 11740). The Commission has concerns in this case that the company targeted has violated, as part of a cartel, article 101 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU), which bans anti-competitive practices.
