Czarnecki faces having his European Parliament Vice President title removed following insults with Nazi connotations

16/01/2018 (Agence Europe)Last week, leaders from four European Parliament political groups (EPP, ALDE, S&D and the Greens/EFA) called on the Parliament's President, Antonio Tajani, to remove the title of Vice President of Parliament from Polish MEP Ryszard Czarnecki (ECR)- a member of PiS, the party in power in Poland. The request is expected to be discussed on 18 January. On 12 January, the authors of this request explained during a briefing that they could not put up with the attacks made by the vice president against Róża Thun (EPP, Poland). Czarnecki had employed a term that had Nazi connotations against Thun at the beginning of January. This request is received by PiS supporters as another disguised attack on Poland and follows the launch of the "article 7" procedure. Czarnecki could still remain an MEP but the EPP does not want him to represent Parliament. (SP)
