Second round of negotiations in Santiago for update of EU-Chile association agreement

Negotiators from the European Commission and Chilean administration are meeting again from Monday 15 to Friday 19 January, in Santiago, for the second round of technical level talks ahead of the update of the 2002 EU-Chile association agreement.

Over the course of this second round, which will focus on the trade section of the agreement, the negotiation teams will cover a broad range of issues, including the facilitation of trade, services and investment, competition, sustainable development and trade, and gender equality and trade.

The negotiations were launched in mid-November 2017 and aim to deepen bilateral relations on global challenges (climate change and sustainable development) and economic, social and environmental cooperation in a broad range of areas (see EUROPE 11907).

On the trade level, this involves grafting missing modern elements to an agreement which has proved its worth on market access: investment, non-tariff barriers, intellectual property rights, including geographical indications, and sustainable development.  (Original version in French by Emmanuel Hagry)
