06/12/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 6 December, the representatives of the member states adopted without discussion the European Commission's negotiating mandate to prepare a new agreement with Canada on the transfer of airline passengers' data (PNR data) in order to fight terrorism and organised crime. On 26 July, the Court of Justice of the EU rejected an initial draft agreement with Canada which it considered incompatible with certain fundamental rights recognised by the EU. Ireland made a separate statement in which it undertakes, given the importance of the subject, not to wait for three months, as it is entitled to do, to tell its partners whether or not it is participating in this text.
