Suppliers of luxury goods can stop authorised distributors from selling their products on third party internet platforms

The European Court of Justice (ECJ) followed the opinion of Advocate General Nils Wahl of 26 July of this year (see EUROPE 11838) and ruled on Wednesday 6 December in case C-230/16 that the ban placed by a supplier of luxury goods on its distributors from selling its products on third-party internet platforms preserves the luxury image of the goods without going, in principle, beyond what is necessary.
